About our founder

John Braddell graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1965 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in May 1966.  During John's service, his older brother James Braddell, along with their parents, James Braddell Sr. and Edna Braddell, started a new business called Turfside Acres in 1967. John joined the family business after his honorable discharge of active duty and has been actively involved ever since.

Over the years, the business has played a crucial role in numerous high-profile projects, such as the construction of the Buffalo Bills’ stadium in 1973 (originally Rich Stadium, now Highmark Stadium), the Buffalo Bisons Stadium in 1988 (now Sahlen Field), the new University at Buffalo Amherst campus completed in 1993, and the complete redesign of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester for the PGA Championship in 2023.
